Biologically known that rattan is a type of climbing palm (sub family Calamoideae) with long, thin, many jointed pliable stems and spiny. It grows at elevations from 0 – 2900 meters above sea level in a diverse range of forest types.
It grows well at a moist region or a region with more than 1500 mm/year rainfall.In a drier region, number of rattan species decreases. Its mature stem grows to 25 – 35 meters in length but the old ones, such as rattan found in old growth forests in Besiq area, may reach up to 100 m. In my home office I have a glass-top desk, which I purchased from Plummer’s about eight years ago. The frame is black metal tubing. I like the glass surface because it is easy to clean and it makes the desk seem smaller and lighter, so it doesn’t give the impression of dominating or crowding the room the way a wooden or metal desk does.
I have three short drawer units that sit under the desk in the same position that built-in drawers would take. I think I got them at Target. They are on wheels, so I can pull them out for easy access if I need to.

My living room, as well as my entire one-bedroom apartment, is furnished around the fact that I have two little pug dogs that shed their beige hair a lot!
In order to camophlage this, I have furnished my entire living room in the color beige! Color can be found in the pillows and the wall hangings. In order to read my morning newspaper in comfort, with one pug dog on either side of me, I purchased a large Bergere chair, with a matching ottoman, in beige leather which I found advertised in a newspaper by the well-known department store, Bloomingdale’s.
I had it shipped about 1500 miles. Alongside it there is a metal floor lamp and a small chest made of rattan that I use as a place to put a phone and the coffee cup.
My living room has two sections, each about ten feet long and ten feet wide. One section has the Bergere chair, lamp and chest, along with two beige “easy” chairs. Although the dogs are not allowed on either of these, they are upholstered in a beige cotton material. Read more »
